Arteriolar narrowing – arterioles of the inner eye narrow to a width of about one-half that of vein width. Decreased visual acuity – the inability to see clearly. Diplopia – double vision. Discharge – excretion of any substance other than tears. Pain – may demand immediate attention. Periorbital edema – swelling around the eyes. Ptosis – a drooping upper eyelid. Strabismus – eyes deviate from their normal gazing position. Vision loss – may be central or peripheral. Visual floaters – specks of varying shape and size that float through the visual field but disappear when the person tries to look at them. Visual halos – rings or halos seen when looking at bright lights.
